Happy Birthday!

Typewriter Party Is One!

One year ago, on Day of the Dead, I quietly soft-launched Typewriter Party.
I knew I wanted to create a space where writers could take their work seriously without treating creativity like punishment. A place for honest conversations, thoughtful feedback, ambitious writing, and the occasional reminder that making things can be joyful! I want to help you feel like writing and rewriting is a party, both alone and with community.

I have always been moved by the meaning of Día de los Muertos—a Mexican tradition, rooted in Indigenous and Catholic practices, in which families remember the people they have lost, welcome their spirits home, and celebrate the enduring connection between life and death. For a few days, the distance between the living and the dead feels smaller. Love and memory bring what has been lost back into the room.

I chose that day because I feel that writing is also a way to return. We’re pulling inspiration from what’s been lost, and preserving what we’ve been through, what we’ve seen, and what we want to remember. We’re visiting with our dead relatives, our past relationships, and even our former selves every time we sit down to write.

A year later, I think return is still at the heart of Typewriter Party. Every time a writer reopens an abandoned draft, reconnects with their voice, or simply decides to come back to the page, something that seemed lost becomes alive again.

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of working with writers through workshops, classes, one-on-one consultations, full script reads, monthly Typewriter Parties, and long-term writing programs. I’ve watched writers return to abandoned drafts, untangle story problems, make brave changes, finish pages, and find their excitement about writing again.

Typewriter Party is still growing. So am I. It started as something incredibly small, and now it feels real. That is entirely because of the people who showed up. I’m so grateful for you! If you attended a Typewriter Party, took a class, trusted me with your script, recommended my work to another writer, shared a post, joined my email list, or encouraged me along the way: thank you. You helped build this.

An Anniversary Thank You: Half-Off Full Reads!
To celebrate Typewriter Party’s first birthday, I’m offering 50% off full script reads booked through December 31, 2026. If you have a feature draft, a TV pilot, a book, or a play that needs a thoughtful, experienced set of eyes before your next rewrite, this is your chance to get a full read at half the usual price. The anniversary offer is open to both new and returning Typewriter Party writers.

I’m incredibly proud of what Typewriter Party has become in its first year, and very excited about the stories, writers, classes, and parties still to come.

Cheers to Year Two! And here’s to everything we’ll bring to life together.

Here’s an optional exercise we did at our very first Typewriter Party on last year’s Day of the Dead: Write a letter to your favorite long-gone author detailing why their writing matters to you. And then, write a letter reminding yourself why your writing matters!

This month’s free Typewriter Party is November 7th - Book Here: https://www.typewriterparty.com/free
