The Honorable [Representative’s Name] U.S. House of Representatives [Office Address] Washington, DC [ZIP]
Dear Representative [Last Name],
I am writing as a constituent to urge you to oppose mass immigration raids and to support humane, practical immigration policies that respect due process and basic human dignity.
Mass workplace and community raids tear families apart, create fear in neighborhoods, and undermine public safety. These outcomes run counter to the values of justice, public safety, and economic stability that your office should protect.
Please consider the following points as you weigh legislation or oversight related to immigration enforcement:
Humanitarian and family impacts: Mass raids can separate parents from children for extended periods and cause long-term trauma. Policies should prioritize family unity, alternatives to detention, and community-based case management over aggressive, large-scale enforcement actions.
Public safety and community trust: Local law enforcement and immigrant communities need trust to report crimes and cooperate in investigations. Targeted enforcement focused on individuals who pose genuine threats is more effective than broad raids that cast suspicion on entire communities.
Due process and legal access: People subject to immigration proceedings deserve timely notice, access to legal counsel, and a fair opportunity to present their cases. Mass operations often rush or bypass procedures that protect basic rights.
Economic and labor considerations: Immigrant workers are integral to many sectors of the economy. Sudden, large-scale removals disrupt workplaces and local economies and can facilitate exploitation if workers are too afraid to assert their rights.
Cost and resource allocation: Large raids are expensive and divert resources from targeted enforcement priorities and from programs that improve immigration processing and adjudication. Investing in case processing, legal representation, and alternatives to detention yields better outcomes and is more fiscally responsible.
I ask that you publicly oppose policies that authorize or encourage mass raids, support legislation that strengthens due process protections and access to counsel for immigrants, and back community-based alternatives to detention and enforcement. Additionally, please advocate for oversight to ensure federal action respects constitutional protections and minimizes harm to families and communities.
I also stand with DGA Chair Governor Andy Beshear, who calls for immediate pulling immigration officers out of American cities and a complete re-training of all officers, including the removal of border patrol face masks.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response outlining your position and any steps you will take to oppose mass raids and support humane immigration policies.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
